About Joe, Karyn, and the Ministry Work

Thank you for visiting our website and inquiring about missionary work and our ministry. Many people ask us, in light of all the current violence in the Middle-East, don't you think it is too risky to go there to witness? Our answer is, if they do not hear this message of life and hope from the Body of Christ, from whom will they hear? (Rom. 10:14) Our great and mighty God is doing wondrous works here in Turkey and all over the Middle-East; many are coming to faith in Christ and having their lives transformed, and it is by God working through His people, the Church. Is God calling you to go? Or partner? We worship a mighty, faithful God!

Our family has begun two fledgling churches with 37 national believers in Ankara, the capitol city of Turkey, where we have resided since 2003. Turkey has a population of about 85 million people and is 99.8% Muslim; it is a Middle-Eastern, creative access country. Through this website we hope to offer insights through our experiences in:

Receiving a calling to a foreign field and ANSWERING THAT CALL from the Lord by prayerfully and obediently following Jesus on the adventure;
Communicating with those who are NOT called to go to a foreign field, BUT are called to regularly PRAY for overseas ministries and who have a desire to understand how to pray for such ministries more EFFECTIVELY;
Informing Christians who have a desire to understand what specific NEEDS are, and providing opportunity for those called to GIVE financially.

Turkey is an honor and shame culture; consequently, from that perspective, the greatest sin or dishonor that can be committed is betrayal. Citizens are born Muslims, and the greatest betrayal that can be committed is to betray this birthright by turning from Islam, becoming a Christian, and accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. This belief system fosters potential dangers involved in church planting ministries within this Muslim nation; therefore, there is some information that will not be mentioned anywhere on this website. Specifically, the identity of the churches we have begun and the true names of our friends and siblings in Christ who we're witnessing to and discipling. When a Muslim becomes a Christian, life has the potential of becoming very dangerous; therefore, with a desire to protect the church and its members, the names that are used in our newsletters and blogs have been changed.
